TTC Phase 3

Project Description

TTC Phase 3 is a 3-story, 340,000 square foot technical school addition to the Tulsa Technology Center Lemley Memorial campus. The design features a 3-story lobby atrium, dining hall with outdoor terrace, a skybridge connecting to existing buildings, and a 20,000 square foot courtyard for students to display their work. Our client was seeking a design that would unify the campus, put all of the trades under one roof, and represent their brand as the leader of technical schooling in the state.

The masterplan for TTC Lemley Memorial Campus includes three buildings, Health Services Center, Client Service Center, and Technical Service Center. Phase one, two, and three, respectively. Currently, the Health Services Center is the only building from the masterplan that exists today, while the Client Service Center is under construction, and Phase 3 to follow shortly thereafter.

The major design concerns became apparent early on. With the building being as massive as it is, (just over 8-acres) the design would have to break down scale or it would quickly become overbearing. To solve this challenge, we developed a design system that would relate the human proportion to the building's scale. This enabled the design to evolve while retaining a set of "rules" that kept the design cohesive. Using the materials of the surrounding buildings also added to the cohesiveness of the campus feel.
