Enid Airport Terminal

Project Description

The city of Enid, Oklahoma had intended to renovate their existing airport terminal, however, upon closer inspection the project was determined to be more cost-effective to demolish and build new. The airport had the unique added function of housing a great restaurant that pilots flew from all over the region to come eat at. Early on in the design process we knew we would need to express both of these unique functions.

After multiple massing studies, we felt the most appropriate design approach was to express the restaurant as a sweeping angled roof, reminiscent of a plane's wing, that would visually open to the runway for customers to leisurely watch the arrival and departure of aircraft, while the grounded, glazed CMU airport office is intended to be an area of refuge for pilots needing rest and an area to plan their flights.
